Shake Shack

Philadelphia’s first day of Spring was marked by more than completely pleasant weather. At the corner of 20th and Sansom streets, Shake Shack began unveiling their highly-anticipated first location in the City of Brotherly Love. Rather than leave Philadelphians with a construction site eyesore while they wait for their burgers and shakes, Shake Shack enlisted us to design something completely unique.

The result is a living, breathing installation that brings “the park” into a once uninspiring corner in center city. We used our EDGLEY window boxes, PARKSIDE living wall, some CUSTOM panels, and plenty of vines, flowers, and shrubs to brighten things up. Plants were selected by Kristen of Roots First.

Aside from using recycled steel for all of our products and panels, we recommended giving our products and the plants a more permanent home. We (along with Shake Shack) formed a partnership with the Rittenhouse Square Flower Market for Children’s Charities. Big thanks to Shake Shack, can’t wait for some of those burgers and shakes!

Announcing our designs for Urban Outfitters new headquarters building down at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Our product systems will be used at the main entry and low roof of the building. The systems will be the FAIRMOUNT- green roof, PARKSIDE- living wall and a custom rainwater tank/planter.

Here is a rendering of the custom rainwater tank and planter. The rainwater will be used to irrigate the green roof and living wall.

Here is a behind the scenes look at FUNSTON, we wanted to share some of the process of designing our well travelled product featured on Gizmodo, Notcot, theawsomer, uncrate, justluxe, treehugger, MSNBC…

Originally conceived to be useful across seasons, ice chest in the summer and fire-pit in the fall without taking up too much space. However, with much feedback the party transforms in just a few hours.

Another bit of info is that these are made from 18 gauge stainless steel that will weather every storm and be a permanent fixture that has a lifespan over generations.

And just wait we already have made a few improvements and have some surprise additions in the works.

Homeowners in Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties can take advantage of energy efficient improvements through the EnergyWorks program. EnergyWorks experts help owners find ways to reduce their building’s energy use, and EnergyWorks’ low-interest loans help them pay for the upgrade.

EnergyWorks partners with the Energy Coordinating Agency (ECA) and the Keystone HELP Program to help residential customers make the best possible energy upgrades.

We have been awarded as a Green Innovator for the 2011 Green Economy Business Opportunity Conference (GEBOC) being held in Baltimore, MD. As an award winner, we will be presenting a lecture on our studios work during the conference.

Photoshoot!

Just got done with the photo shoot a little while ago and everything seems like its going to turn out really great! Sam Oberter our photographer really knows his stuff.

We had a great location for the shoot, the Museum at Elfreth’s Alley (the nation’s oldest residential street). They granted us access to shoot in areas with some really great surroundings and backgrounds.

Kickin’ Back: Design for Leisure

We were chosen to show Funston our fire-pit (flip over) ice chest in the Kickin’ Back exhibition! This curated event showcased new forms of design that reflect leisure. Projects ranged in scale from children’s toys, fence pockets (www.internationaldesignclinic.org) to skate parks. Opening night is Thursday, January 27, 5.30 to 7.30pm the show lasts until March 25, 2011
