Mario Gentile, founder and CEO of Shift Space Design LLC, drives the strategic direction of the studios experimental design lab, while overseeing operations and client relations. As an architect and product designer, Mario has been involved with residential, commercial and institutional building projects in both national and international locations. The work and research have a modern aesthetic with a focus on mass-customization, prefabrication, and sustainable design.
Professional achievements include exhibitions, award winning designs and inclusion in the following books: The Home House Project, MIT Press and Rebuilding Ground Zero, Rizzoli International. Gentile is currently teaching an architecture studio at the University of Pennsylvania focused on biomimicry. A former professor at Temple University, Gentile has taught various levels of design studio including thesis advising and has also been an invited critic to many of the leading design schools in the country.
Before founding SHIFT_DESIGN, he has worked with Kieran Timberlake Associates, Peter Marino Associates and JXN Studio in Philadelphia and for George Ranalli Architect and Resolution 4: Architecture in New York. A graduate from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Architecture and has received his Masters degree in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University. He lives in Philadelphia with his wife and two sons.
