Fitler Nine

Shiftspace provided landscape and industrial design services for this nine unit development in Philadelphia. An elevated courtyard serves as the public core for the residences. A central path is broken up by custom aluminum built-in planters that provide a human scale in the cavernous courtyard. The courtyard’s siting above a parking garage constrained the plantings and hardscaping to be minimally intrusive on the roof below.

Both the layout and planting palette was guided by the client’s desire for privacy. The terraced planters provide both a backdrop for lower plantings and additional soil depth for shrubs and trees. In addition to the courtyard, Shiftspace provided design services for multiple tenants’ rear yards.
